A mutual passion for natural, healthy sleep

The idea for Golden Eider grew out of a project for outdoor suites for the hotel industry. In a safari tent set up on the Rigi, the queen of the Swiss mountains, Christian Wick discovered the beneficial effect of sleeping as close to nature as possible. There he experienced first-hand how well one sleeps under a duvet made of eider down, even in difficult climatic conditions.

Therefore, a few months later, in his search for the most natural, animal-friendly and sustainable eider down, and with the help of his international contacts, he embarked on an expedition to one of the largest eider farmers in Iceland. He found a true eider duck paradise in a remote bay. Since this adventurous journey, Christian Wick has cultivated his passion for Iceland and the eider duck. The eider down obtained is a gift from nature. And the Golden Eider duvet is the logical continuation of this story on the way to natural sleep. In the meantime, he is a great lover of natural materials that ensure a healthy and beneficial sleep.

A new standard for eiderdown duvets

Eiderdown duvets have been known for their soporific effect for centuries. Nothings beats them when it comes to temperature regulation, as they provide exceptional insulation at a relatively light weight.

To ensure that the eiderdown can unfurl its unique properties even more effectively, Golden Eider opted for a high-tech cotton batiste fabric for the cover of the Golden Eider duvet, as it’s twice as breathable as similar fabrics.

The eider duck is a rare, wild bird that is protected by conservation law and not bred by humans. Unlike all other down, eiderdown is not plucked. The eider duck plucks out its own fine breast feathers to create a nest for its brood. Once the chicks are grown, the down has served its purpose so can be collected by the eider farmers.

The down used in the Golden Eider duvets comes from a secluded cove in eastern Iceland. Golden Eider regularly visits this eider duck paradise and maintains a close working relationship with the farmer in this cove, who does everything he can to ensure that the eider ducks are healthy and happy, and protects them from their natural predators in the hope that “his ducks” will come back to breed in the following year.
